UWISHUNU PHILADELPHIA
The team behind Old City’s Mac’s Tavern will fancy up their comfortable, casual bar concept when they open The James, in the shadow of the in-construction Comcast Tower.
METRO PHILADELPHIA
It’s not often that I walk all the way down to Arch Street, especially when it comes to a night of fine dining. However, with Philly’s ever changing landscape, locals can now experience impeccable cuisine a few blocks north of Rittenhouse, with the opening of James at 1835 Arch.
BILLY PENN
Construction cranes tower overhead. The sidewalk across the way is blocked off by bulldozers. There’s scaffolding hiding the entrance. But once you make it inside James, newly open on the corner of 19th and Arch, the atmosphere shifts to cool, classy and calm.

James, a new eatery at 1835 Arch Street, celebrated its opening with a party last Wednesday with friends and family. The restaurant is named after James Logan, the Irish-born colonial American statesman who served as the fourteenth mayor of Philadelphia.

James takes over the corner space below the Lofts at 1835, where Mission Grill once stood. And where Mac’s succeeds as a casual tavern, James aims to do the same, but through a more “sophisticated” lens.

James, the bar and restaurant owned by the same group as behind Mac’s Tavern in Old City, though this is a very different concept, opens today. Named after James Logan of Logan Circle fame and a former mayor of Philadelphia, James takes over the former Mission Grill location with 88 seats and 28 bar stools.

Now for the “James” part.
James is the name of the restaurant opening Sept. 21 on the ground floor of the Lofts at 1835, on the corner of 19th and Arch Streets.
